Alive! he cried

Happy 90th birthday, Lawrence Ferlinghetti!

The LA Times wrote an article about this cultural icon today. It should be a national holiday. Dead or alive? Alive! I had no idea.

Heart Shadows

My honey has a thing for shadows. He likes to take photos of his shadow, our shadows. In fact, last night had made a comment about our shadows on our walk. I came across this photo on someone's Facebook page and I thought of him. Well, I think of him only about a thousand times a day!

I Think I Know How Uncle Fester Felt

Thankfully today I don't have a headache. Had a bad one on Sunday and into Monday.

I have been "living" with these for far too long. More than 20 years---if I'm honest. And I have finally accepted that they are dibilatating even if I'm not sequestered away in a dark room for the whole time.

Today I re-scheduled my appointment with a neurologist. I hope (pray) that he can help and that his remedy doesn't cost hundreds of dollars.

Health Care and Caring

Feed the babies who don't have enough to eat.
Shoe the children with no shoes on their feet.
House the people living in the street.
There's a solution.

-Steve Miller, Fly Like An Eagle

Enough with the every-man-for-himself mentality. Enough.

Blog of a Wimpy Kid

I wimped myself at wimpyourself.com. Fun. Makes for a good profile picture, too. Go wimp yourself!

Happy birthday, John Updike! (b. March 18, 1932)

On Words
Writers take words seriously--perhaps the last professional class that does--and they struggle to steer their own through the crosswinds of meddling editors and careless typesetters and obtuse and malevolent reviewers into the lap of the ideal reader. McHenry, Dam!

I try to go to McHenry Dam at lunch whenever I can. Now that it's above 50 degrees out, I can even walk on the path which goes around the marsh next to the dam. My call to action: Get out there and commune with nature!

my first blog entry

Hello! This is my very first blog entry--ever! I'm a newbie...hee hee.

I've been trying to decide what it is that I want to say or share here on our blog. The two major focuses in my life, currently, are: 1) endless occupational therapy for my right wrist that I broke back in December and 2) final plans for our wedding in June. So, those two topics make sense to start with...peppered with other random musings that occur to me. I hope my postings aren't boring as all hell!

Diner

We stopped at the Hubbard Avenue Diner in Middleton, Wisconsin, on our way back from Richland Center. We sat at the counter. It was packed, as it was 3/14 - Pi day. All pie slices were $3.14.

The Ides of March

Caesar was warned, "beware the ides of March," but other than having to get up an hour earlier because of Daylight Savings Time, I don't think we have too much to worry about.

Soothsayer
Caesar!

CAESAR
Ha! who calls?

CASCA
Bid every noise be still: peace yet again!

CAESAR
Who is it in the press that calls on me?
I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music,
Cry 'Caesar!' Speak; Caesar is turn'd to hear.

Soothsayer
Beware the ides of March.

CAESAR
What man is that?

BRUTUS
A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.

CAESAR
Set him before me; let me see his face.

CASSIUS
Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar.

CAESAR
What say'st thou to me now? speak once again.

Soothsayer
Beware the ides of March.

CAESAR
He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass.

Innisfree

Tomorrow morning, Jackie and I are going to a little cabin in the woods, where "peace comes dropping slow." This is the same cabin where we got engaged last December.

Together

Rather than have two separate blogs, Jackie and I have decided to build a blog together.
